Marshfield, WI (OnFocus) While unable to conduct church services during Safer at Home, Wesley United Methodist Church looks forward to the time its members can come together — and when that happens, it could be in its own church building for the first time in almost two years.

The congregation held a groundbreaking for a new church last September, a year after the building was destroyed in an accidental fire on Sept. 2, 2018. Members quickly came together just days after the blaze in a push to rebuild what will be a 13,378 square foot facility at the corner of E. 3rd Street and S. Maple Avenue, where its congregation has gathered since 1886.

“God has been leading us through,” said Pastor Lourdes Magalhães. “The construction has slowed down a bit but has not stopped even through the Safer at Home order, and we do care for all the workers’ safety first.”

Originally scheduled for an April opening, the church’s new completion date is scheduled for June. Furniture is being manufactured and will arrive closer to building completion.

“We are working on a date for the Dedication Ceremony, and that has to be in conformity with the government authorization for churches gatherings,” said Pastor Magalhães.

Currently, Gov. Evers’ Safer at Home Order is in effect until May 26. In the meantime, the church has aired its services through Facebook.
