OnFocus – Midwest Horse Welfare Foundation (MHWF) is currently caring for more than 20 rescue horses, with two scheduled to arrive before the end of December, and an emergent case of three horses coming in very soon that desperately need help.

Thanks to a recent fundraising effort spearheaded by Weiler’s Convenience Stores, and with help from ProVision Partners Cooperative, 40 bags of Purina Equine Feed were donated to the rescue this week.

“We are a locally-owned business. We live and work here in this community and it’s important to us to do what we can to help it thrive,” said Kelly Weiler, owner. “Animal rescues were hit hard this year because they weren’t able to host their normal fundraisers. We wanted to do something to help.”

Weiler’s Convenience Stores sold custom t-shirts to raise funds for MHWF and Marshfield Area Pet Shelter (MAPS), and will also be presenting a monetary check to both nonprofits soon.

“We are so blessed to live in such a wonderful community,” said Karen Bayerl, Executive Director of MHWF. “We are sending out the most sincere and heartfelt thank you to Weiler Convenience Stores for hosting the ‘Adopt Don’t Shop” fundraiser that benefitted both Midwest Horse Welfare Foundation (MHWF) and MAPS, and to every person who sponsored a bag of feed for the horses of MHWF!”

There are always horses at MHWF who need medical help, nutritional help and all-around rehabilitation to also include various levels of training. MHWF makes sure that each horse gets everything they need, and all-around rehabilitation of a horse can take many months.

“None of this work would be possible without the support of kind, caring and generous people who believe in our mission and support the horses who need help. This has been quite the unprecedented year and with so many struggling, you have given us so much faith and confidence that we will all be strong together moving into 2021,” said Bayerl. “Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts, and the velvet-nosed gang sends their love to all!”
