The return of the Athlete of the Week and Team of the Week contest saw voters turn out in big numbers to support area athletes and teams.
Ray Reineck of Wausau West took home the title as the OnFocus Athlete of the Week, August 14 to August 20, with 628 votes.
Nathan Brzoznowski of Merrill finished second with 571 votes.
- Brady Stencil of Edgar finished third with 268 votes
- Abbotsford’s JV Castillo collected 224 votes to take fourth
- Aden Cherny of Auburndale was fifth with 161 votes
OnFocus Athlete of the Week, August 14 – August 20
- Brady Stencil, Edgar Football – In Edgar’s 35-7 win over Lakeland, Stencil scooped up a fumble in the second quarter and returned it 52 yards to push Edgar’s lead at the half to 28-0.
- JV Castillo/Christian Fuentes, Abbotsford Football – In Abbotsford’s season-opening 33-8 win over Loyal, the tandem combined for five touchdowns. Junior quarterback Castillo had over 150 yards and a pair of touchdowns, with freshman running back Fuentes adding 97 yards and three scores.
- Aden Cherney, Auburndale Football – In Auburndale’s 76-0 season-opening win over Menomoniee Indian, 9 different players had touchdowns for the Eagles. The Eagles scored 11 touchdowns in the win, and Cherney was a perfect 10 of 10 on extra points for Auburndale.
- Nathan Brzoznowski, Merrill Bluejays Football – In Merrill’s 43-0 shutout of Northland Pines, Brzoznowski rushed for 139 yards on just 12 carries, scoring four touchdowns. Merrill collected 340 yards on the ground on 33 rushing attempts.
- Ray Reineck, Wausau West Football – Reineck rushed for 179 yards on 19 carries and had a pair of touchdowns as West defeated Superior 33-13 to open the season.
