MARSHFIELD, Wis. (Dec. 8, 2020) — Marshfield Utilities (MU) is furthering its plans to build a new ADA-compliant facility for additional space, greater security, improved ventilation, dual location efficiencies, and easy building access for customers and employees.

The plans were first introduced publicly back in January, after MU’s architect identified a need for more than 77,000 square feet of space to meet the current and future needs. The current MU main office was built more than 50 years ago.

“We are excited that after nearly 12 months of initial approvals, development of detailed specifications and numerous drawing updates that we have moved to the bidding phase of the project,” said Nicolas Kumm, General Manager at Marshfield Utilities. “By the end of December, we will have bid results which will move the project one step closer to breaking ground in 2021.”

The estimated total cost of the project is $17.5M. At this time, the impact to electric rates is estimated by be 5-6% or $4/month for residential customers, which would not take effect until 2023. However, even with the increase, MU will still have one of the lowest residential electric rates in Wisconsin.

To move the project forward, bids and finances must be approved by the Utility Commission on Jan. 11, 2021 and the City Common Council on Jan. 12, 2021. For more information on the building project, including reasons why the time is now and a virtual tour of the new space, click here.
