Urban nets late game-winner as Marshfield boys hockey slides past D.C. Everest

WESTON – Nick Urban scored with 6:07 remaining to provide the Marshfield boys hockey team with the game-winning goal as the Tigers beat D.C. Everest 4-3 in Wisconsin Valley Conference action Thursday at the Greenheck Ice Arena.

Marshfield fought back from a two-goal deficit to tie the game with a pair of second-period goals. Urban scored 2:19 into the period and Isaac Wellens added a goal at the 10:46 mark to tie the game at 3-3.

Urban hit the game-winner on an assist from Nate Boson and the Marshfield defense held on for the win.

Marshfield goalie A.J. Trierweiler had 35 saves to earn the victory.

Everest pulled ahead in the first period despite having someone in the penalty box for much of it.

All of the Evergreens’ three goals came short-handed in the final 5:14 of the opening period.

Marshfield’s Max Heller scored on a power play with 3:25 left to keep the Tigers within striking distance.

Marshfield improves to 15-6 overall and 6-3 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, while Everest drops to 6-10-1 and 3-5 in conference play.

The Tigers will enjoy a week off before hosting Tomahawk for a nonconference game on Jan. 31. Marshfield’s final conference game is Feb. 5 at Wausau West and it finishes its regular-season schedule with a nonconference game at Mosinee on Feb. 7. The WIAA playoffs begin Feb. 12.
