Champaign, IL (OnFocus) – As reported by Michael Woods of the Associated Press, candidates for the open Head Football Coach opening at the University of Illinois include three coaches with Wisconsin ties.

Bret Bielema, who coached at Wisconsin before leaving to coach at Arkansas, is one of the candidates Illinois is considering.

Former Badger Jim Leonhard, who is Wisconsin’s defensive coordinator, is also being considered. Leonhard played in the NFL and although he has coaching experience at both the pro and college level, Leonhard has not been a Head Coach.

University of Buffalo Head Coach Lance Leipold leads the nation’s top scoring offense, and previously coached at UW-Whitewater, where he led the Warhawks to seven NCAA Division 3 titles.
