Thanksgiving Pet Safety Tips from Pet Supplies Plus

MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – With Thanksgiving approaching, Pet Supplies Plus is sharing tips on what is safe to feed your pet this holiday.

“It can be tempting to give them table scraps, but really it’s best not to give them any human food unless approved by your veterinarian,” said Kim Crawford, Store Team Lead. “That being said, there are some great pet foods you can treat your pet with on Thanksgiving. There’s even a canned dog food called ‘Thanksgiving Feast’ that we offer.”

Though best not to give your furry friend any human food, if you absolutely can’t resist – these are the options that are traditionally safest and not safe. (Always check with your vet first!)

SAFE FOODS:

  • Plain sweet potatoes
  • Plain boiled or bake potatoes
  • Apples
  • Turkey meat
  • Green beans
  • Plain peas
  • Plain pumpkin

UNSAFE FOODS:

  • Turkey bones, skin, and gravy
  • Stuffing
  • Casseroles
  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Creamed peas
  • Chocolates/Sweets
  • Alcohol
  • Raisins and Grapes
  • Ham
  • Yeast Dough
  • Fatty foods
  • Foods containing spices
  • Onions, Scallions, Garlic
