Szymanski, Ysquierdo, Shelvan Among State’s Top Rushers in Level 1 Playoffs

Rushers across the state had outstanding performances in Level 1 of the Football Playoffs. The games played Friday Nov 13 and 14 also included games scheduled by teams that were able to play, and central Wisconsin is represented by three backs with outstanding performances.

Matthew Szymanski of Loyal collected 233 yards on 38 carries, and picked up 3 touchdowns as Loyal shutout Independence/Gilmanton.

Level 1 Playoff Football Scoreboard

Cordero Ysquierdo rushed 17 times for 186  yards as Nekoosa took down Virocqua 52-22.

Tristan Shelvan of Amherst had 33 carries for 184 yards as Amherst picked up a 32-22 win over top-seeded Lake Country Lutheran.

For their work, Szymanski and Ysquierdo were each nominated for the OnFocus Athlete of the Week. (Shelvan has already won one AOW this season, an impressive feat)

Shelvan is also a finalist for the Dave Krieg Award, given to the state’s top senior quarterback.
