Stratford, Spencer/Columbus wrestling both finish 3-1 at Stanley-Boyd Duals

STANLEY – Stratford and Spencer/Columbus Catholic each ended up 3-1 to tie for second place at the Stanley-Boyd Wrestling Duals on Friday at Stanley-Boyd High School.

Stratford dominated Ladysmith 76-6, Stanley-Boyd/Owen-Withee 66-12, and Chippewa Falls 77-3, before dropping a grueling 32-31 decision to Ellsworth.

Stratford and Spencer/Columbus did not wrestle against each other in what would have been the final dual of the evening since there was no bearing on the final outcome.

Stratford had six undefeated wrestlers. Gavin Drexler (113 pounds), Max Schwabe (132), Mav Licciardi (145), Trevor Dennee (182), and Dylan Schoenherr (285) all went 4-0 with three pins. Manny Drexler also went 4-0 at 120 pounds, with two pins.

Jacob Heiden (138), Logan Rueth (152), Devin Dennee (160), Hunter Ford (170), and Trevor Steiner (195) each went 3-1 for the Tigers.

Ellsworth went undefeated to win the team title at the dual tournament. Ellsworth has made the WIAA State Team Tournament in 13-straight seasons, was the Division 2 runner-up last year after it had won state titles in 2016 and 2017.

Spencer/Columbus beat Stanley-Boyd/Owen-Withee 42-39, in what counted as a Cloverbelt Conference match, Ladysmith 45-30, and Chippewa Falls 51-30, and suffered a 63-15 loss to Ellsworth.

Ashton Ackman, Treyton Ackman and Logan Zschernitz each went 4-0 for the Rockets, while Carson Hildebrandt, Jake Dick, Danny Richmond, and Andres Rodriguez all were 3-1.

Spencer/Columbus and Stratford will compete at the Bi-State Classic in La Crosse on Dec. 28-29.
