STRATFORD – The Stratford girls basketball team stayed in contention for a Marawood Conference South Division title as it beat Marathon 62-53 on Saturday night at Stratford High School.

The Tigers led by one at halftime, 28-27, before pulling away in the second half to the nine-point win.

Mariah Zawislan scored 14 of her game-high 23 points in the second half for Stratford.

Stratford made 14 of 25 free throws in the second half to help maintain its lead.

Stratford is now 14-5 overall and 13-2 in the Marawood South, trailing first-place Wausau Newman Catholic by one-half game. Stratford plays its final conference game at Auburndale on Thursday and must win and have Newman lose either one of its two remaining games – Monday at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption or Tuesday at Edgar – in order to tie for the conference title.

Kyli Blume had 14 points and Elizabeth Boehm added 13 for Marathon (4-15, 3-11 Marawood South).
