Stratford Falls Short in Division 5 State Title Game

The Stratford Tigers lost their first game of the season at Camp Randall falling to Lake Country Lutheran 22-13.

The Tigers would take an early lead on a 2-yard touchdown run by Beau Gross. They would tack onto that lead with a 17-yard pass from Max Schwabe to Justin Radke with 3:17 left in the first quarter.

But Lake Country Lutheran would dominate the game after that holding Stratford to just 58 yards of offense after the first quarter.

Lake Country Lutheran would get on the board with 6:19 left in the 2nd on a 5-yard touchdown pass from Luke Haertle to Andrew Schumacher. The Tigers would block the extra point tying the game at 13.

That score would hold until the fourth quarter when Haertle would connect with Schumacher again on a 28-yard touchdown pass. Lake Country Lutheran would score again with on a 20 yard run by Haertle with 4:25 left.

The Tigers would give up a safety with 2:14 left on a sack of Schwabe giving Lake Country Lutheran a 22-13 lead.

Stratford previously won the Division 5 title in 1986. From 2003-2008, they earned six straight titles in Division 6, the only program to do so. They defeated Amherst Falcons in the playoff semifinal 19–7 to advance to state.
