Stratford boys basketball blasts Newman Catholic to stay unbeaten

WAUASU – The Stratford boys basketball team started fast and never let up, rolling to an 86-44 victory over Wausau Newman Catholic in a Marawood Conference South Division game Monday night at Newman Catholic High School.

Stratford pulled out to a 31-point lead by halftime, 48-17, to stayed in control throughout.

The Tigers are now 18-0 overall and 14-0 in the Marawood Conference South Division. Newman falls to 6-13 and 3-11 in conference play.

Stratford made 11 3-pointers in the win and shot 51 percent overall (32 of 63).

Ben Barten had 19 points, making 9 of 11 free throws and all five of his field goal attempts, to lead the Tigers. Vaughn Breit added 16 points and Teddy Redman added 11 for Stratford.

Stratford hosts Marathon on Friday.
