MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – Families can learn how to address common decision-making obstacles when passing on personal possessions at the “Who Gets Grandma’s Pie Plate” presentation.
Hosted by Stoney River, the free program developed by the University of Minnesota Extension will be held on Wednesday, July 13, from 5 to 6:30 pm at Stoney River’s assisted living community, located at 1204 W. McMillan St., Marshfield, WI.
Attendees will receive practical suggestions and proven strategies on how to transfer property to loved ones and enjoy refreshments. The first five people to RSVP receive a free copy of the “Who Gets Grandma’s Yellow Pie Plate” workbook! RSVP to Meranda at 844-377-9903.
Estate planning typically focuses on titled property such as the house, land, cars, stocks, bonds and bank accounts, overlooking personal items—many with emotional ties more precious than money.
Those who attend Stoney River’s program, “Who Gets Grandma’s Pie Plate,” will learn the ins and outs of personal property inheritance and discover how to avoid family conflict when dividing family heirlooms. Presenters Sarah Krenn, Stoney River’s Executive Director, and Meranda Lelonek, Stoney River’s Lifestyle Specialist, will cover the following topics:
- Initiating conversation about sensitive issues
- Identifying objects with special significance
- Setting ground rules
- Sharing stories about special items
- Determining distribution options and goals
