Stevens Point slips past D.C. Everest, Marshfield to win fifth leg of Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Golf Tournament

MERRILL – Stevens Point took over the overall lead in the team standings after winning the fifth leg of the 2019 Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Golf Tournament on Friday at Merrill Public Golf Course.

Stevens Point won with a score of 327, edging D.C. Everest by four shots and Marshfield by five to pull ahead of both teams in the overall standings. The Panthers now have 30½ points, with D.C. Everest (30) and Marshfield (29) close behind.

The seven-meet tournament will wrap up next week with meets at Greenwood Hills Country Club in Wausau on Tuesday and at RiverEdge Golf Course in Marshfield on May 17.

Merrill’s Russell Dettmering won his fourth-straight WVC meet, shooting a 74 on his home course. Stevens Point teammates Evan Thomas and Logan Pechinski tied for second with 77s.

Marshfield freshman Davis Rens had an 80 to take seventh place, Ben Baur was eighth with an 80, and Nate Boson shot an 84 to finish 10th for the Tigers.

Boson is seventh, Baur eighth and Rens 10th in the overall individual standings.
