Stevens Point School District Places Lockout in Response to Threat

Update 10:30 a.m.: Stevens Point Police: “Based on investigation regarding the threat received concerning a school within the Stevens Point School District, law enforcement determined the threat was a hoax which originated from another state. At 11:30 a.m., law enforcement will conduct a joint news conference with the School District at the Bliss Educational Service Center at 1900 Polk St.”

The district-wide lockout has been lifted.

Update 10am: The school remains on lockout but is aware a suspect responsible for the threat has been apprehended.

Update 9:30 a.m.: Law enforcement has detained an individual concerning the threat received. More information to follow.

(OnFocus) The Stevens Point Police Department said it is aware of a threat made concerning a school within the Stevens Point School District and has requested a lockout as a precaution.

The lockout was placed at 8:42 a.m. A lockout means all students remain inside and all doors are locked, but classes continue as usual.

“We are working with local law enforcement and believe this is the safest option for our students and staff at this time,” the district stated on its Facebook page.
