Stanley (OnFocus) – The Stanley-Boyd Orioles held off Abbotsford to advance to sectional volleyball play, winning by scores of 25-18, 25-17 and 25-23.

The first two sets were closely contested most of the way, with S-B pulling away down the stretch.  Leading the way for S-B was Emily Brenner, who proved to be a difficult weapon for the Falcons to stop.

Abbotsford was able to stay within striking distance in the first two sets with some timely kills and blocks, and their momentum carried over to the third set.

Twice in the third set, Abbotsford held three point leads, only to see S-B claw back.

Sydney Falteisek, Haylee Soyk and Briseida Escalera had timely kills for the Falcons, and a 20-17 lead for Abby gave all hope the match could be extended to a fourth set.

Trailing 23-21, Stanley-Boyd reeled off four points for the win, advancing the Orioles to the sectional semifinals. S-B will travel to Marathon Thursday evening for the 7:00 sectional semifinal.

Match stats will be added to this article when they become available
