St. Vincent De Paul Calls on Community for Help During Winter Months

OnFocus – St. Vincent De Paul of Marshfield is looking for volunteers for their outreach program and food pantry during the coming months. 

Store director Trisha Hebert said the cause of the shortage in volunteers has been the COVID-19 pandemic. The store has been giving boxes of food away to families in need during the pandemic and needs help lifting boxes of up to 50-60 pounds of food.

Hebert said the outreach program consists of two part-time employees, two full-time employees and volunteers but they still need help with the heavy lifting. 

Hebert said she is looking for about six to eight people who can volunteer three to four hours of their week to help out. 

St. Vincent De Paul has been helping between 400-500 families per month and has provided over $30,000 in clothing, furniture and household items to families in need during 2020. 

The organization has also contributed $30,000 for prescription refills and medications this year according to its year-end newsletter. They also distributed over 400 Christmas baskets that included the makings for Christmas-Day meals for families. 

According to the newsletter, St. Vincent De Paul helped 741 new people this year and served 6,804 meals to people in need on Monday and Wednesday evenings throughout the year.
