Spencer (OnFocus) – Groundbreaking for the new Spencer dome took place this week.

Approved in a 2019 referendum, the dome will house an expanded gym, updated wellness center, and modernized wrestling room, and will also serve as a tornado shelter rated to provide protection from an EF5 tornado.

“The dome will provide a much needed safe shelter for the community along with the educational benefit with the added classrooms,” said Mike Endreas, district administrator. “The community fitness center will also benefit Spencer communities.  A residual benefit may encourage young people to come to Spencer to live.”

He added that he is “proud of the collaboration and work between the School Board and the Village board to make this happen.”

The facility is expected to open in September 2021.
