Spencer (OnFocus) – The Spencer/Columbus Rockets opened the 2021 season with a bang, coming back to earn a 51-28 victory over Glenwood City.

“I was proud of the way our guys didn’t flinch with early adversity,” shared S/C Head Coach Jason Gorst.

After falling down 7-0 in the first quarter, S/C came back to lead 25-13 at the half.

” Our defense was solid against the run and made big play against the pass to give us a short field.  Carson Schmidt and Nate Rucker had great nights at inside backer along with Sully Melander on the edge,” Gorst shared.

Brock Bennington led all rushers with 236 yards on 11 carries, scoring three touchdowns.

Cole Timmler ran 6 times for 105 yards and Will Gorst had 6 carries for 101 yards. Timmer had a pair of touchdowns and Gorst scored twice.

“Our running game was very solid and well balanced.  Brock, Will and Cole all had big nights,” Gorst added.
