Spencer/Columbus Holds on to Defeat Bangor

Spencer (OnFocus) – The Spencer/Columbus and Bangor Football Teams each an opening on their schedule, and were able to compete in nonconference play Friday evening. Two storied programs with considerable success in recent years played a battle that went wire to wire before S/C picked up a 28-27 win.

“We are very proud of our guy’s effort tonight.  We are getting better each and every week,” said Spencer/Columbus Head Coach Jason Gorst. “It was a very memorable game and we are thankful that Bangor was willing to make the trip up.”

Brock Bennington put S/C on the board with a 24 yard run in the opening quarter.

Will Gorst scored for the Rockets on a 12 yard run in a second quarter.

Bennington added a second quarter field goal of 43 yards before scoring second quarter touchdowns on runs of 7 and 13. Bennington had 30 rushes for 223 yards in the game.

“Sully Melander had a stand out game as a guard and was a big key to our running game.  Brock was a workhorse tonight.,” shared Gorst.
