SPASH Baseball Claims 13th WVC Title in 16 Seasons

Schofield (OnFocus) – The SPASH Panthers Baseball were looking to claim the Wisconsin Valley Conference title, which has been a staple of the program for over a decade. Facing a tough DC Everest team, though, made the task a monumental one. The Panthers fell 3-2 in 9 innings in the opener, but then rallied to take a 5-4 win in the nightcap.

SPASH claimed its 13th title in 16 seasons in the process, a remarkable feat for the Panthers.

“I am proud of the players for accomplishing one of their goals in winning the Wisconsin Valley Conference title,” said SPASH Head Coach Kraig Terpstra.

Game 1 was knotted at 2 after 7 innings of play. Neither team scored in the 8th inning before Everest scored in the bottom of the 9th to claim the win.

Game 2 saw SPASH lead 3-0 after three innings. The Evergreens took a 4-3 lead  in the 5th, and going into their half of the 7th inning, SPASH was able to fight back and plated two runs for the win.

Tommy Drohner and Kenny Schultz had hits in the final inning to keep SPASH alive. The Panthers took the win when Cade Konzcal was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give SPASH the win.

“It was nice to see us find a way to win the 2nd game after a loss in the first game,” Terpstra added.

SPASH is now 13-3 and finishes 10-2 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference and outright Conference Champions
