OnFocus – According to Detroit Free Press, The Big Ten has voted to cancel the 2020 college football season in a historic move that stems from concerns related to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Last Thursday, for example, the Badgers released updated COVID-19 testing numbers stating 21 of 259 student-athletes have tested positive since they began returning to campus in early June.

The Conference had previously announced a revised schedule for this season, which is now slated to begin September 3, when Ohio State travels to Illinois. In addition to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference(Division 3) announcing plans to scrap its 2020 season(LINK to our article)  several Division 1 conferences have either postponed or cancelled their fall sports seasons.

Coaches have begun issuing statements:

“I’m not advocating for football this fall because of my passion or our players desire to play, but because of the facts accumulated over the last eight weeks since our players returned to campus on June 13,” said Jim Harbaugh, coach of the Michigan Wolverines.
