Marshfield, WI (OnFocus) A local fundraising event aims to help those in the community at risk of an empty bowl.

The 9th annual Marshfield Area Empty Bowls event benefiting food pantry Soup or Socks will take place Saturday, March 14 from 11-2 p.m. at Hotel Marshfield.

“The proceeds from Marshfield Area Empty Bowls help to provide the items we need at SoS that are not received as donations,” said Cheryl Lewis Hartl, Soup or Socks Director. “We provide to each household coupons for fresh milk and produce. We are looking at increasing that part of our program to get more fresh fruits and vegetables into homes.”

Nineteen restaurants are donating 22 different soups, featuring a few old favorites along with some new options. Weiler Convenience Store will be donating a cheesy baked potato with ham soup and encourages others to attend the event.

“I personally can’t imagine having to worry about how I will come up with the means to fill my children’s bellies! I don’t want any other parent to have that concern,” said Trisha Mayer, Weiler store manager and member of the Empty Bowls Steering Committee. “People in a position to help other people in any fashion should do so. The event is fun! The energy is fantastic and it is just a fulfilling experience.”

Each person who attends Empty Bowls can take home a keepsake ceramic bowl made by local artists. Some of the bowls are planted with succulents and will be available for purchase in the merchandise area. There will also be raffle baskets and a 50/50 raffle.

Demand at Soup or Socks has remained steady since 2018. Last year, the food pantry provided households with enough food for over 30,000 meals.

Empty Bowls tickets are $10 for one large bowl of soup or a flight option of three small bowls. There’s also a $15 option for a large bowl paired with the flight.

Call Soup or Socks at 715-387-1796 to purchase tickets in advance, or send an email to [email protected]. Advanced ticket sales will be available until March 13 at 4:30 p.m. Tickets will also be sold at the door.
