Marshfield, WI (OnFocus) A total of 42 freestanding Shopko Optical locations will be established in Wisconsin this year, with further growth planned for 2020.

On May 16, private investment firm Monarch Alternative Capital LP announced it had purchased Shopko Optical and would relocate the business out of the closing Shopko retail stores.

Marshfield is one of the locations that will make the transition.

“Currently, the address is still being finalized, but Shopko Optical aims to have all new freestanding locations in close proximity to Shopko stores. Until the new store is open, the old location will continue to serve patients,” said Jim Eisen, Interim CEO of Shopko Optical.

There are currently seven freestanding Shopko Optical locations in Menasha, Rothschild, Eau Claire, Omaha, Mequon, Waukesha, and Oshkosh. Several of the new locations are expected to open in the next few months.

Monarch affiliate “Shoptikal LLC” is purchasing the optical business for $8.5 million in cash.
Shopko first filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January. In March, the company announced that it had failed to find a buyer and would close all of its retail locations by June.
