Marshfield (OnFocus) – Shirley’s House of Hope is celebrating ten years of helping the women and children of Marshfield and surrounding communities.

Shirley’s House of Hope offers support to women and children who are experiencing an immediate domestic violence or alcohol/drug related crisis. The organization offers emergency shelter for these women, and a nine-month “Renew” program for women caught in the cycle of domestic abuse or alcohol/drug related addiction.

According to the Shirley’s House of Hope website, the “Renew” program gives each woman (and her children, when applicable), her own bedroom and all basic necessities. After women graduate from the nine month program, they can apply to live in the organization’s second building, the Recovery Center. While living in this building, the women look for employment, go to school, or can work as an intern for Shirley’s House of Hope.

On August 20th, Shirley’s House of Hope donors will celebrate with a luncheon. Donors should have received an invitation.

“It’s for all who have supported the House of Hope in the past,” said Tammy Redetzke, Associate Development Director for the organization.

Redetzke notes that Shirley’s House of Hope is currently looking for more volunteers. According to their website, the organization needs over 150 hours of volunteer work each week to help keep it running. As they are open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, and receive no government funding, volunteers are necessary to the shelter’s survival. They look for “compassionate, willing people who know the Lord to bless our clients and to help staff our shelter,” according to their website.

Shirley’s House of Hope also looks for donations to keep the doors open. To donate or see their “needs” list, visit http://www.shirleyshouseofhope.org/give/
