WOOD COUNTY, WI (OnFocus) – The Wood County Health Department has announced two Wood County beaches will be reopening after being closed due to E. coli concerns last week.

South Wood County Park White Sand Beach and Dexterville Beach are open once again for swimming. The department recorded two consecutive water samples that deemed the beaches safe at the time of collection.

Last week’s heavy rains could be a cause of the outbreak as heavy rain can affect water quality. The department advises to avoid swimming for 24 to 4 hours after heavy rain events.

South Wood County Park Red Sand Beach remains closed due to continued high E coli. counts. This beach closure will end when the results of two consecutive days’ samples are below 235 MPN.

The Wood County Health Department will continue to test the water quality of Wood County beaches through the end of August. If you have questions regarding water quality testing at Wood County beaches, you may call the Wood County Health Department at 715-421-8911 or 715-387-8646, or the Wood County Parks and Forestry Department at 715-421-8422.
