Search Concluded for Human Remains in Wisconsin River

PORT EDWARDS, WI (OnFocus) – On Friday July 22, 2022, the Wood County Sheriff’s Department concluded the search for human remains on the Wisconsin River. At this point the Sheriff’s Department is working with the Wood County Comers Office and with a forensic anthropologist to determine cause of death and identification of this individual.

Water levels in this section of the Wisconsin River will be rising at this time so please use caution if you are around this area which is located in the Village of Port Edwards.
When identification and cause of death are available the Wood County Sheriff’s Department will provide an update.

The Wood County Sheriff’s Department would like to thank all that helped with the search over the past several days. The Wisconsin Rapids Police Department, Marshfield Police Department, Village of Port Edwards Police Department, Grand Rapids Police Department, Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department, NorthStar Search & Rescue, K-9 Emergency Response Team, Minnesota-Wisconsin Search Team, K-9 SOS, and Rapids Search and Rescue are the departments and organization that assisted with the search.
