OnFocus – Local cub scouts will be participating in “Scouting for Food” over the next two Saturdays as part of an initiative to help local food banks.

The scouts traditionally leave a bag on the front door of local residences in hopes that they will fill the bags and leave them outside their doors.

Scouts will be coming by those houses on Saturday April 17, starting at 9 a.m. Any non-perishable food items are accepted. Participants will just leave the items in the bag and place it outside of their doors.

Samoset Council, serving north-central Wisconsin, partners with 50 food pantries in 13 counties. Sixty tons of food are collected annually and help fill shelves in time for summer, a time of year when families may need extra assistance feeding kids who are on school vacation.

Participating food banks are locations that include Spencer, Marshfield, Auburndale, Athens, Stratford, Wisconsin Rapids, Pittsville and Nekoosa.
