Rivals Clash: Abbotsford Holds off Colby in Volleyball Thriller

Abbotsford defeated Colby 3-1 in nonconference volleyball, 28-26, 25-21, 17-25, 26-24
The opening game between the two rivals set the tone for the evening.  Game 1 saw Colby take an early lead until Abby fought back to tie things up at 22. The teams took turns with opportunities to take the set down the stretch until Abbotsford junior Sydney Faltek’s tip gave Abby a 27-26 lead and then the Falcons claimed the set on the next point.
After the Falcons took game two, Colby fought back and with the support of their fans, took down Abbotsford  to trail 2-1.

Game four saw more back and forth action before the Falcons thwarted the Hornets’ comeback attempt, 26-24.

Sommer Brodhagen 20 assists
Haylee Soyk 19 kills, H% .324, 10 digs
Briseida Escalera 6 aces
Adriana Rivera 12 digs

Faith Sperl 11 assists and 11 digs
“Girls played hard against a very talented Abbotsford team, we showed our youth tonight with 13 service errors and 21 hitting errors.  This is just something they are going to have to get through mentally, I think they are finally starting to realize how much of this game comes down to focus,” explained Colby Head Coach Wade Oehmichen.
Colby was led offensively and defensively by Hayden Wildner with 12 kills, 16 digs and passed a 2.5 average.
“Hayden had a tremendous game.,” Oehmichen added. “Harrison Schmitt is starting to come around as a middle hitter, she had 9 kills, 1 block and 7 digs.”
