Residents and Pets Escape Camper Fire in Township of Richfield

TOWNSHIP OF RICHFIELD, WOOD CO (OnFocus) -On May 5, 2022 at approximately 4:44pm Richfield Rural Fire Dept. was dispatched to 8049 Bethel Rd, Town of Richfield, Wood County, for a report of a camper on fire that was used as a residence. The report of the fire was called in by a neighbor.

Upon arrival firefighters found flames shooting out from around and underneath the camper. The fire had got into the walls and roof of the camper also. All residents and pets were out of the camper upon arrival. The fire was quickly knocked down by fire personnel. Bales piled around the camper for insulation contributed to the fire spread.

The camper suffered severe damage and is considered a total loss.

The camper was being used as a residence and was home to a mother and 3 children along with their 2 dogs. At the time of the fire, 2 children and the dogs were inside. They were able to escape prior to the fire departments arrival.

The 2 children and a passerby where evaluated for smoke inhalation by Marshfield Ambulance and Richfield Rural Fire Dept. Emergency Medical Responders.

Fire Departments assisting Richfield were Arpin, Cameron, Hewitt Area, and members of the Wood County Central Rapid Intervention Team from Pittsville and Lincoln Fire Departments. Additional assistance was provided by Wood County Sheriff’s Department, Wood County Dispatch Center and American Red Cross. Fire units cleared the scene at 6:19pm.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family. The cause of the fire was electrical in nature and foul play is not expected.
