Wisconsin Rapids (OnFocus) – Renaissance Learning has offered suggestions for families to support reading development over the summer. The letter is shared below, along with resources to support reading development this summer.

The letter is also included in Spanish.

Dear Families,
Did you know many students lose a month or more of reading proficiency
over the summer? Thankfully, keeping kids engaged with books and
articles can stop the summer slide and keep them growing. Using
Accelerated Reader at home is a great way to keep students reading and
motivated.
Students can read books and take Accelerated Reader Quizzes at home.
Accelerated Reader also has nonfiction high-interest articles for students to
read, and quizzes they can take after reading articles. Teachers will provide
login instructions if students don’t already have them.
As students read and take quizzes, they can track their progress toward
their individualized Accelerated Reader goals. These goals are at their just
right level of challenge and will help motivate them. Achieving their goals
will help ensure students are experiencing reading growth.
Please take a few minutes to review the Summer Family Tip Sheet for
ideas that will help keep your students reading and growing using
Accelerated Reader this summer.

Here are a few more resources to help you support your student this
summer!
