Rafters Win Fifth Game in a Row, Second Straight at Home

The Chinooks left 12 total runners on base

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI- The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (18-13) scored eight runs on ten hits to beat the Lakeshore Chinooks (13-17) 8-3.

The Rafters jumped out with a three-run inning in the second. It began with two infield singles, that put two in scoring position. Addie Burrow (Virginia) hit a fielder’s choice to bring home a run, and Weston Eberly (Columbia) plated two with a single.

After leaving four runners in scoring position in the first three innings, Lakeshore finally got runs across the plate off Justin Beyer (Wagner) in the fourth. An RBI single and wild pitch resulted in two runs, bringing the Rafters’ lead to 3-2.

Wisconsin Rapids added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth, as Elijah Dickerson (La Salle) doubled to left to score Couper Cornblum (Wichita State). The deficit was again one run after an RBI double from Lakeshore in the top of the fifth.

The tying run was at second, but Zack Bennett (Central Florida) entered the game and got a strikeout and groundout to finish the inning. Bennett retired the Chinooks, 1-2-3 in the sixth and seventh and earned the win.

The Rafters in the bottom of the seventh tacked on three insurance runs, an RBI double for McKinley Erves (LaGrange), a sacrifice fly from Marco Castillo (Claremont McKenna), and Erves scoring on a passed ball.

Andrew Duran (New Orleans) and Billy Black (Columbia) threw a scoreless eighth and ninth inning, respectively, to finish the game.
