Rafters fall to Mallards, Split Season Series Thus Far

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI – The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (6-6) settled for a split with the Madison Mallards (6-6) after falling 6-2 Friday in the second game of a home and home series.

Mallards starter Eliot Turnquist stymied the Rafters bats, pitching 4.1 scoreless innings and allowing just three hits. The Rafters got on the board in the sixth inning. Trailing 3-0, Ben Swords (Webster University) scored on a bases loaded fielder’s choice to cut the Mallards lead to two runs. Swords had two hits on the evening.

Catcher Angelo D’Acunto (Holy Cross) also had a big day for the Rafters with two hits and an RBI. Hank Zeisler (Chapman) brought the 1,066 fans at Witter Field to their feet in the seventh inning with a solo blast over the right field wall. Zeisler’s first home run of the season cut the deficit to three runs.

Cole Eigenhuis (Sac City CC) got his second start for the Rafters and pitched a strong four innings allowing one earned run and striking out six. The Mallards scored four runs off the Rafters bullpen. Madison scored one run in four different innings and had a key two run seventh inning courtesy of three singles.
