Pro Athletes Like the ‘Greek Freak’ Are Going After Trademark Violators

Trademark defense is falling on individual players now that they no longer have to rely on big companies to promote their products.

As reported by multiple media outlets, Bucks’ superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is not only battling on the basketball court, he’s in the courtroom, too.

The Bucks’ superstar has filed lawsuits over products unauthorized with his name and likeness:

  • shower curtains
  • spice blend
  • stickers

In all, the 27-year-old has filed more than four dozen lawsuits over the past two years, accusing dozens of individuals and entities of violating his registered trademark for the phrase “Greek Freak” — a nickname that both nods to his background and is easier to pronounce than his five-syllable surname.
