Vesper/Pittsville Area Farmers Eligible for Service on Nov. 6

Farmers in the Vesper/Pittsville area are invited to participate in a FREE Spay/Neuter Day event for their barn cats, organized by Pittsville native Carrie Lippert Gillaspie through nonprofit “The Fix Is In.”

“I noticed that many of the local farms were overpopulated with barn cats and wanted to do something to help,” said Gillaspie. “Cats are integral to the farm ecosystem, but 2 cats can quickly turn into 22 cats, making it an unhealthy environment. It can lead to more problems, inbreeding, overpopulation, the spread of disease. Spaying and neutering is so important, and this event helps make it as easy and affordable as possible for the farmers in my neighborhood.”

Gillaspie contacted The Fix Is In, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide high quality, affordable spay and neuter services. The clinic team travels throughout northern Wisconsin providing affordable, high quality spay/neuter services in 8+ counties.

Since July 2012, a total of over 20,000 spay/neuter surgeries have been completed. The Fix Is In works closely with not only the public, but also pet shelters, rescue groups, and Trap Neuter Release groups with the vision of reducing the number of homeless pets in Wisconsin.

The usual outdoor/barn/feral cat fee is $40 and includes surgery, ear tip & cleaning, rabies vaccination, treatment for wounds and other illnesses at the discretion of the veterinarian, and a single dose of Revolution, which treats ear mites, fleas, round and hookworms.

Thanks to generous community donations as well as Nelson-Jameson, Inc., there will be no cost to farmers at the November 6th event. Marshfield Area Pet Shelter and the Pittsville FFA will be assisting with the logistics of the event.

“We are so thankful to the caring people in the community and to Nelson-Jameson for their financial support of this event,” said Gillaspie. “Farmers have many financial challenges and to be able to offer this to them free of charge is amazing. Having the support and help of MAPS and the Pittsville FFA is making it a true community effort!”

To participate, farms MUST pre-register by contacting Gillaspie at [email protected] or (857) 248.1276 by October 31st. There is no limit on how many cats can come from one farm, but there is a limit to the total amount of cats The Fix Is In can sterilize in one day so people are encouraged to register ASAP.
