Pittsville Fire Company Reworks Fundraising Event

Pittsville, WI (OnFocus) The 34th Annual Heart and Sole Race in Pittsville will move forward on July 3 despite the cancellation of the town’s traditional Fourth of July celebrations due to COVID-19.

The race is held by the Pittsville Fire Company as a fundraiser and will be organized differently this year to allow participants to maintain social distancing while supporting a good cause.

“We will host an open course in Riverside Park on July 3 from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.,” the fire department stated in an update. “We encourage you to bring family, friends to participate at a time that works best for you while continuing to support this worthwhile cause.”

There will be no entry fee or registration. Instead, participants are encouraged to give a monetary donation to Pittsville Fire Company which will then be matched by an anonymous donor. Funds will go toward two Pittsville high school scholarships, training, and equipment purchases.

Different course options will be set up at Riverside Park and a modified kids’ race will be offered.

The Pittsville Fire Company collaborated with the Wood County Health Department to put a plan in place for the safety of participants, and will be taking precautions such as sanitizing and providing hand sanitizer.

The race has seen “outstanding” support from its local business sponsors.

“We see the local impact that this race has, we just want people to know we’re going to do it safely,” said Fire Chief Jerry Minor. “To see the support we’re getting to do this is really positive for us.”

A limited number of T-shirts for 2020 are available to purchase. To reserve a shirt, for questions, call or text 715-650-1996. Questions can also be directed to the Pittsville Fire Company at 715-884-6514.
