Domestic Violence Shelter to Occupy Former Shelter Facility

OnFocus – Today, Personal Development Center (PDC) made official the purchase of the former Frederic Ozanem Transitional Shelter facility in Marshfield. (This comes two days after the City of Marshfield Common Council turned down a request by PDC to fund the purchase.)

“PDC signed all necessary documents for purchase of what was the transitional shelter and are moving forward with our project,” said Renee Schulz, Executive Director. “PDC secured financing to purchase the facility and will be initiating a fundraising campaign to pay off the loan as quickly as possible.”

Earlier this month, PDC Personal Development Center, Inc. (PDC) announced it would purchase the facility at 505 E. Depot St. from St. Vincent de Paul for the cost of the land value — $80,000. The building and current contents are being donated.

Since the closing of the transitional shelter (due to safety concerns for the staff and residents and financial constraints), Personal Development Center, St. Vincent de Paul, and The Family Center have worked together with other agencies to discuss all the opportunities available at the facility and the best way to provide comprehensive services to residents facing homelessness.

PDC is a private, non-profit domestic abuse and assault victim services agency providing case management, advocacy, and prevention education to individuals and families in the greater Marshfield area and Clark County, Wisconsin. Having served the community since 1977, the agency has a history of identifying and addressing needs within an atmosphere of confidentiality and concern. All services are provided free of charge.

PDC has provided advocacy and support to thousands of victims and children in need; in 2016, 969 individuals received increased safety and the tools necessary to begin healing from the trauma of abuse.

“We’re very excited for this new beginning and to see what the next 40 years has in store for PDC and the community we serve,” said Schulz.
