Obituary for Wanda Hamus

Wanda M. Hamus, 91, Auburndale, closed her eyes for the last time and joined her Lord in Heaven after a long battle with cancer on Monday, November 1, 2021 at Wells Nature View Assisted Living, Marshfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 5, 2021 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Hewitt, where the visitation will be from 10:00 am until service time. Rev. Murali Anand Rayappan will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.  Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Wanda was born on November 9, 1929, the eldest of nine children of Myron and Nettie (Gliniecki) Zygarlicke, Sr. She was raised on the family farm in the Town of McMillan, Marathon County and was a graduate of Columbus High School, Marshfield. She was united in marriage to Eugene J. Hamus, Sr.  on October 26, 1950 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield.

Wanda was a loving wife and mother and farmed with her husband in the Town of Auburndale while raising her family. She had a strong faith and was a devout Catholic. She enjoyed canning, cooking and baking and was known for making specialty Polish and German dishes at Christmas time. We always left her home with a kiss on the cheek from her. Her language was very colorful at times.

She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Gene and her 11 children, Gene (Joan) Hamus, Jr., Kay (Paul) Holland, Marie (Tom) Willfahrt, John (Linda) Hamus, Ann Hamus (friend – Keith) Mark (Terri) Hamus, Sue (Mike) Schmidt, Jane (Al) Konop, Tom (Sherrie) Hamus, Paul (Jill) Hamus, and Mary (Tom) Huber. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, Jesse, Jimmy, Justin (Stevana) Hamus, Tammy, Todd (Angela), Trent (Liz) Willfahrt, Gwen (friend – Greg), Perry (Chrisine) Hamus, Calvin (Megan), Collin Hamus, Scott (Kandi) Schmidt, Ashley (Ethan) Borchardt, Sarah Hamus, Paityn and Aliah Hamus and 16 great grandchildren, Caleb, Maia, Jack, Lateishah, Alex, Mason, Connor, Wyatt, Emily, Kyra, Tayla, Zaylee, Ezlyn, Bennett, Aiden and River. She is further survived by her brothers and sisters, Myron (Donna) Zygarlicke, Eugene (Marge) Zygarlicke, Peter (Mary Carol) Zygarlicke, Tom (Joan) Zygarlicke, Bonnie (Jerome) Bauer and Jim (Sandy) Zygarlicke, sisters-in-law, Lois Zygarlicke, Mary Ann Heyer and Lucille Bauer and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Nancy Zygarlicke, brother, William “Billy” Zygarlicke, sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Ted Poplawski, sister-in-law, Lorraine Hamus, brother-in-law, Ervin Heyer, brother-in-law, Raymond Bauer.

The family would like to thank Miranda and Josh of Heartland Hospice and caregivers, Deb and Jess and Dr. Arlene Gayle and the oncology staff of Marshfield Medical Center.

A memorial will be designated at a later date.
