Sylvia Marlene Hougum. March 25, 1938 – October 25, 2020

Sylvia Marlene Hougum of Stratford, Wisconsin passed away on October 25, 2020, in Stevens Point. She was born March 25, 1938, in Marshfield, the daughter of Allie and Isabelle Heisler. She attended Marshfield High School. On September 20, 1958, she was united in marriage to Maurice Hougum and they resided at the Stratford residence, where together they operated a dairy farm.

Sylvia was a hardworking farmer’s wife and mother. She enjoyed gardening and canning many fruits and vegetables. She was an avid stamp collector and a coin collector. She owned “Sylvia Ceramics” in Marshfield, where she enjoyed teaching the art of painting ceramics; her specialty was painting the eyes. She received many awards and ribbons for her ceramics at the Marshfield Fair.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Maurice Hougum; her five children, Larry Hougum of Milwaukee, Darrell (Crystal) Hougum of Marshfield, Kurt (Lynda) Hougum of Franklin, Maureen (Bruce) Erdmann of Greenfield, and Ila (Daniel) Anderson of Washburn; her seven grandchildren, Heather (Kyle) Rakowski, Kelly Hougum, Cody (Ruthann) Erdmann, Cari (David) Sobczak, Cristin Erdmann, Devon Anderson, and Natasha Anderson and her six great-grandchildren, Gage Rakowski, Charlotte, Colton, and Hannah Erdmann, and Rielynn Sobczak. She is further survived by five step-grandchildren, Amanda (Jason) Bruch, Jessie (Jenna) Shinn, Robbie (Renn) Shinn Adam Erdmann, and Shelby Erdmann; five step-great-grandchildren, Lucy Bruch, Jordan, and Jacob Shinn, Ethan and Shannon Erdmann; her siblings, Delores Mundt, Eugene (Clara) Heisler, LaVern (Virginia) Heisler, Shirley (Donald) King, Virgene Krueger, Patricia (Dennis) Weinstock and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Sylvia is predeceased by her parents, Allie and Isabelle Heisler.

The Funeral to remember Sylvia will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 31, 2020, at Life Tributes Funeral Home in Spencer with Pastor Paul Vander Galien of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Stratford officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 AM until time of services. She will be laid to rest in Hillside Cemetery in Marshfield following the funeral services.
