Sylvester J. “Pete” Sazama age 92, of Colby, passed away Friday evening, June 25, 2021, at Colby Retirement Center under the care of  St. Croix Hospice.

His family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, July 1, 2021, at Country Aire Restaurant in Stratford beginning at 3 PM.  There will be a short “Message of Hope” for Pete at 4:30 PM. Following the service, there will be a Celebration of Life with Pete’s family and friends concluding at 8 PM. Pete will be laid to rest with his Ma and Pa, Ida and John Sazama in Saint Mary’s Cemetery, privately at a later date.

Sylvester was born on February 18, 1929, at home in the Town of Frankfort, Colby, the son of John and Ida (Schilling) Sazama. He attended Hillcrest School in the Town of Frankfort. He was a farmer and was also employed at Weyerhaeuser as a production worker for over 30 years.

His memberships included Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby and Catholic Order of Foresters.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting locally and out West with his brother, nephews, and friends. He loved attending family gatherings, always enjoying time spent with his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and dining out with relatives and friends.

Despite being a bachelor, Uncle Pete was always with family and liked to claim his nieces and nephews as his own. He will be greatly missed by all of us at family celebrations and gatherings. Seeing his family always made him smile.

Those who will cherish his memory include his brother, Leon (Patricia) Sazama of Colby; his nieces and nephews, Reed (Judy) Sazama of Marshfield, Renee (Jeff) Scheel of Marshfield, Sheila (Terry) Christensen of Marshfield, Ryan Sazama of Sheboygan, Ronald (Sharon) Umnus of Colby, John (Jodi) Umnus of Merrill, Darnell (Doreen) Sazama of Athens, Darrell (Lori) Sazama of Stratford, Darla (Mark) Viegut of Colby and Dorine (Mike) Geiger of Dorchester.

Sylvester was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ida Sazama; his brother, James “Bud” Sazama; his sister, Marie Umnus; his sister-in-law, Jean Sazama; his brother-in-law, Gerhard “Doc” Umnus and his great-nephew, Trent Geiger.

Sunday mornings will not be the same without his Medo Farm’s breakfasts and seeing his favorite waitresses: Lisa and Karie. Thank you for always making him feel so special!

Special thanks to Samantha Kilty and all the wonderful staff at Colby Retirement Community for making his last days so enjoyable. Also, our deep appreciation to Karisa Stroetz RN and St. Croix Hospice for keeping him so peaceful as he journeyed home.

So many people made him smile and we are thankful that he had you in his life!

Rest now Uncle Pete, you’re home!

Sylvester’s arrangements are under the care of Life Tributes Funeral Home-Spencer. Please visit www.lifetributesfuneralhome.com to share thoughts and condolences.
