Obituary for Neil “Cub” E. Jirschele

Neil “Cub” E. Jirschele, 90, Marshfield, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021 at Marshfield Medical Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield, where visitation will be from 9:30 am until service time. Rev. James Weighner will officiate.  The service will be live streamed at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Columbarium. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Neil was born on January 15, 1931 in Marshfield to Joseph and Esther (Cournoyer) Jirschele.  He attended Marshfield and Tomahawk schools. He married Patricia Erickson on February 3, 1951, and together they had 5 children. Neil worked with his brother Glen at Glen’s Café, Land O’ Lakes, Hub City Jobbing, later Hub City Foods, part owner/operator of Specialty Printing and The Shirt Shack. He then worked for Fleming (Hub City) until his retirement.

Neil enjoyed conversing with his buddies at the Y, spending time outdoors, gardening, woodworking, watching the birds, and going to flea markets and finding treasures for himself and his daughters. He was an avid coin collector and also loved to read and had a vast knowledge of history and antiques. Neil was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He was known for his work ethic, honesty, generosity, and awesome sense of humor. He looked forward to family get togethers, spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia, children, Elizabeth Bliven of Marshfield, Jeff Jirschele of Edgar, Mark (Lynette) Jirschele, Marilyn (Kelvin) Heiman, both of Marshfield, MaryJo (Chris) Leick, Stratford, 14 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, John Jirschele, and one sister, Esther Reinhart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Adam Neil, daughter-in-law, Joan, brothers, Dennis “Bud”, Glen, Bob, Dale, Albert “Chip”, Bill, and Tom Jirschele, and sisters, Joan Hanson, Lucille Schiferl, and Utha Kille.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Neil’s name to St. John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield Children’s Hospital, Marshfield Medical Heart Research Department, or a charity of your choice.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the palliative care unit at Marshfield Medical Center.
