Merlin “Merl” M. Torkildson

Merlin “Merl” M. Torkildson, 87, Marshfield, passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2021, at his home.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at Rembs Funeral Home where visitation will be from 9:00 am until service time. Father Keith Kitzhaber will officiate. The service will be live streamed at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Marshfield where military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 54.

Merlin was born on June 29, 1933, in Fort Totten, ND to Orlie and Marie (Awold) Torkildson. He attended Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, MN. Merlin was united in marriage to Virginia Gebelein on February 1, 1956, in Rapids City, SD.

Merl, or better known as “Skippy,” worked at Rollohome as a supervisor until they closed. He later worked at First Presbyterian Church as a custodian (which he enjoyed very much) until he retired. Merl enjoyed fishing, watching birds (he loved birds), going to the casino with is wife, or just taking a simple drive. He was a loving and caring person to his family and friends. He will be truly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia, 3 daughters, Reyne (Harold) Kenyon, Debbie (Bob) Forst, both of Marshfield, and Cherri (Nick) Ison of Port Washington, 7 grandchildren; Eric Forst, Lacey Forst, Jessica Sabin, Derek Ison, Britney Ison, Mikayla Ison, and Dean Ison, and 6 great-grandchildren; Kira, Brynleigh, Bentley, Brooklyn, Beckham, and Brody.  He is further survived by his brother, Jim (Tina) Torkildson of Minot, ND and sister, Lila Mossestad of Sioux Falls, SD.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Lois Dimmen, and grandson, Nicholas Forst.
