Melvin R. Weber, 84, King, passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Wisconsin Veterans Home in King.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Rembs Funeral Home where visitation will be from 10:00 am until service time. Rev. Wayne Oblender will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 54 – Marshfield following the service. Burial will take place at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of McMillan, Marathon County.

Melvin was born on October 14, 1936 in the Town of McMillan to Frank and Elsie (Tews) Weber. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in the Town of McMillan. He grew up on the family farm and attended East Kerwin grade school and Marshfield Senior High.

He joined the National Guard but then entered the United States Navy in December of 1956. He served on the U.S.S. Mississippi as a boilerman. He traveled to many places including the Persian Gulf, Japan, Trinidad and Durbin, South Africa.

Melvin worked for a time at the Northern Freeport Silo Co. and then took a job as a farm hand in Walworth, WI where he moved in 1959. He had a number of farm jobs in Walworth, Delevan and Elkhorn.

In 2008 his farming days ended due to an injury. After a brief stay in a nursing home in Delevan, he entered the Veterans Home in King, WI.

He enjoyed bowling, sports, and keeping up with all the “gossip magazines.” He loved his dogs and cows.

He is also survived by his sisters, Dora (Wilmer) Schmelzer of Colby, Joyce Gotz of Auburndale, Arlene Schweiso and Diane (Donald) Borgen, both of Marshfield, a brother, Arlen Weber of Spencer, plus many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Elsie Weber, brothers, Martin, Orville, Vincent and Allen and sisters, Norma Carlson and Jarlene Snortheim.
