Mae (Harshman) Ellner-Parr

Mae (Harshman) Ellner-Parr, 93, Marshfield, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2020, at home surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 19, 2020, at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, where the visitation will be from 9:00 am until service time. The service will be streamed online at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington, Eau Claire County. Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, is assisting the family.

Mae E. Harshman was born December 10, 1926, in the township of Spring Valley, WI, to Clarence and Laura Harshman. She was 1 of 9 children. As a child, Mae enjoyed being outdoors and considered herself a tomboy. She attended a one-room schoolhouse and completed the 8th grade.

Mae’s first job was working for a neighbor for $0.60 a day. She later worked for Armour Meats, retiring after 37 years. She belonged to the VFW, Eagles, and Moose.

Mae had many friends and was very social. She enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casino, playing cards, bird watching (especially hummingbirds), reading, and writing letters. She never forgot birthdays or anniversaries even as her health declined.

Mae enjoyed traveling and was always very adventurous. Some of her favorite places included: Mexico, Florida, the Bahamas, Alaska, and Hawaii. Her most recent adventures included: parasailing in Mexico, a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon, a hot air balloon ride over the Arizona desert, and a waterslide ride at Mount Olympus. She even enjoyed motorcycle rides with her son into her 90s.

Mae adored her family. She enjoyed attending the annual Harshman/Ellner family reunions. She loved spending time with her grandkids, great-grandkids, and grand dogs. A fun fact about Mae: her idea of a well-balanced meal was anything sweet and a cup of coffee. Her favorite sayings were “good for you” and “that’s enough.” She was spunky with a witty sense of humor; she will forever be missed.

She is survived by her son, Larry Earl (Mary K) Ellner of Marshfield; grandchildren, James (Kelli) Stokes, Sonja (Gabriel) Hunter, Rachel (John) Brost, and Andrea Ellner (fiancé Rusevelt Johnson); great-grandchildren, D’Shun and Dreanna Mathis, Michael and Mya Johnson, Michael Stokes, Gabriel Jr, Dejah, and Treasure Hunter, Dylan Boden, Derrick, and Lincoln Brost, Kiarra Hobl, and Ryan Brost. She is further survived by her sister, Pauline of Cudahy, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Lorretta Ann and Pamela Kay; siblings, Hazel Engeldinger, Ellen Johnson, George Harshman, Clare Harshman, Ben Harshman, Paul Harshman, and Roy Harshman; and special friend, Jack Barker.
Memorials will be determined by the family at a later date.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Heartland Hospice and especially the nurses, Josh and Laura, NP, as well as the friends and family who sent well wishes to brighten her day.
