Lyle A. Ress, 68, Marshfield, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2025 at home with his loving wife of 49 years by his side after a long battle with lung disease.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 21, 2025 at Rembs Funeral Home with visitation from 9:00 am until the time of service. Deacon Ray Draeger will officiate. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery Columbarium where military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 54 – Marshfield. Friends and family are encouraged to wear jeans and flannel.

Lyle was born on November 27, 1956 in Marshfield to Louis H. and Helen B. (Budtke) Ress. Just prior to graduating from Marshfield High School in 1975, Lyle met the love of his life, Bonnie Lou Carlson, who he affectionately referred to as “Bonzo.” They were united in marriage prior to basic training on December 27, 1975 in Arpin. In 1976, he completed basic training at Luckland Air Force Base in Texas and received technical training in aircraft equipment maintenance at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois, graduating in the US Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. He was then assigned to Sawyer Air Force Base Michigan for duty with a unit of the Strategic Air Command until 1981.

In 1981, Lyle and Bonnie moved back home to Marshfield, Wisconsin to a home they built for their ever growing family.

Lyle’s ability to fix almost anything led to his love of being a heavy truck mechanic for several years of his life. He taught many family and friends how to fix things. He was employed with Stainless and Repair in Marshfield for several years prior to his retirement.

In his pastime you would catch him watching racing, football, baseball, and basketball on TV. He also enjoyed camping, cooking, finding the next grocery store coupon deal, and spending time with his family and friends.

We will never forget his contagious laugh, positive attitude, and favorite sayings: “Take it easy,” “One more,” and “Bummer.”

We will miss him so very much. We love you always.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to pulmonary rehab staff at Marshfield Medical Center where Lyle had gone and met many great people for over eight years.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, children, Kimberly Miller-Ress, Casey Schram, Cari (Andy) Krahn, Cory (Giselle Garcia-Wiese) Ress, and Krista (Travis) Schultz, 12 grandchildren, Thriesa Miller, Logan Miller, Kalie Ress, Raven Schram, Cynthia Schram, Guillermo Ress, Cathrine Ress, Seth Ress, Addison Schultz, Mason Schultz, Tyson Schultz, and Carson Schultz, and 8 great grandchildren.

He is further survived by his sisters, Mary Ann Knutson, Karen Anderson, Bonnie (Richard) Kloos, Lindy (Allen) Wyman, brothers and sisters in law, Ed (Lois) Carlson, Ron (Kathy) Carlson, Bob Carlson, Dave (Sue) Carlson, Gary (Kathy) Carlson, Caroline (Ken) Wunrow, Jenny (Pat) Halpin, Tammy (Ron) Rizzi, Roman Bredl, Judith Carlson, Mike Feirer, and Bill Tobin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Louis Ress, father and mother in law, John and Monica Carlson, brothers and sisters in law, Lillian Bredl, John Carlson Jr., Jim Carlson, Shirley Tobin, Kathleen Feirer, Scott Carlson, Bertha Carlson, and Rosie Carlson.
