Lorrayne was born at home, March 29, 1932, in the town of Cary, Wood County, to Frederick and Elmira (Burt) Christensen. She attended Cary Bluff and North Hansen Elementary Schools, Pittsville High School, Wood County Teachers College, and UW- Stevens Point. She taught in two rural schools with all eight grades (Altdorf and Pleasant View). She taught at the Cranmoor State Graded (grades 5-8) and was also principal. She also taught 6th grade at Arpin Elementary until consolidation with Auburndale. She then moved to Auburndale where she taught only 5th and 6th-grade math. Retiring in 1997, she continued to do substitute work for ten years.
Lorrayne married Roy Voight from Sherry on June 21, 1952, on her mother and father’s 32 anniversary. They were blessed with eight children and lived on a farm in the town of Sherry where she helped with farm work and taught school. In 1972, they sold the farm and moved to a home in Arpin. Roy and Lorrayne celebrated their 50 Anniversary in June of 2002.
Lorrayne was a 4-H member for 12 years. She won several trips to the State Fair for demonstration and sewing projects. She was a 4-H leader for 10 years and also started a new 4-H club at Altdorf. She served on the Arpin Library Board for 25 years. She also filled in at the library if the librarian had to be away. She served on the county library board for several years. She served on the North Wood County Cancer Board, was secretary of WLATE (Woodland Association of Teacher Education), Wood County Alumni Association, and served many years as voting chief inspector for the village of Arpin Election Board. She held volunteer drives for Relay for life, March of Dimes, and diabetes for the village of Arpin
She was a member of the Central Wisconsin Reading Council, Wisconsin Math Council, Delta Kappa Gamma Alpha, member of Rudolph and Wisconsin Rapids Moravian Church, served as Rudolph church treasurer from 1977-2015 (closure due to fire). She was secretary of the Rudolph Women’s Fellowship, and later, president for many years. Lorrayne taught Sunday school for many years and was a youth fellowship leader. She also organized and helped with MANY church luncheons and chili dinners over the years.
Mom was a hard worker and a “Doer”. When people say…”Call me if you need anything,” she wouldn’t wait for the call…she would just swoop in and go help those that were sick or in need without being asked. She loved teaching, cake decorating (she made many wedding and special occasion cakes), crocheting (she made lap quilts for cancer patients), gardening and canning, reading, working on the Arpin library and church history, sewing, quilting, and keeping in touch with all of her family and dear friends. She was such a generous and thoughtful person. She never missed a birthday or anniversary. She was always sending cards or making phone calls to check in on, or touch base with others. Her faith was extremely important to her and she lived this by example, thus instilling this in her children. Above all, Mom enjoyed her family! She LOVED all of our get-togethers and spending time with her grand and great-grandchildren. They were the light of her life and she was VERY proud of each and every one of them!
She is survived by her children: Vincent (Peggy) Voight of Auburndale, Victor (Tami) Voight of Mosinee, Virgil (Elaine) Voight of Pittsville, Brenda (Rick) Bell of Hustler, Son-in-law Mark McGuire of Rio, daughter-in-law Shelly Voight of Wisconsin Rapids, and Sandra Voight (Vermont). Grandchildren: Amanda (Jason) Slattery, Jonathan Voight, Eric (Elsa) Voight, Heather (William) Wellach, Susan (Paden) Thomley, Lorryn McGuire, Olie (Hannah) Voight, Victoria Voight, James McGuire, Tyler Voight, and Chase Voight. Great-Grandchildren: Carson & Sophia Slattery, Noah, Maryella, & Simon Wellach, Journey, Jackson, & Augustus Voight, Odin & Otto Thomley.
