Janice M. Heckel, Marshfield, passed away with her family at her side, on Saturday, April 17, 2021, at Marshfield Medical Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 23, 2021, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Marshfield, where the visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Rev. Douglas Robertson will officiate. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Janice was born on August 18, 1955, in Marshfield, to Carl and Alice (Mengel) Heckel, and attended Marshfield Schools. Janice loved a good laugh with friends, family, and her caretakers.

As a young child, Janice loved going into the woods and picking Mayflowers for her Mother. She loved drinking warm maple sap from the sap pan when the family made maple syrup in the Spring.

Janice enjoyed making chocolate chip cookies for the family and eating them warm right from the oven.

Janice was best known for her warm smile and beautiful singing. She would sing songs by Dolly Parton and Lynn Anderson and amaze people when she knew all the words by heart to the Country Western songs she loved.

Janice enjoyed going out for her favorite chocolate sundae and Diet Pepsi at Culvers and McDonalds where the staff would greet her by her first name.

Rita Rowe deserves a special blessing for being there for Janice as her Guardian and beloved sister and for the countless hours of loving care Janice needed through the years.

She is survived by her brothers and sisters, David Heckel (Amy Schmidt), Michael Heckel (Karen Miller), both of Marshfield, Rosemary (James) Donnerbauer of Wisconsin Rapids, Rita (Robert) Rowe of Nekoosa, Jennie Heckel of La Crosse, Lila (Larry) Mannigel of Spencer, and Gene (Aimee) Heckel of Chugwater, WY. She is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Norbert.

Janice will be missed by friends, family, and caregivers.

The family wishes to thank Culvers and McDonalds Staff for being so kind to Janice and putting extra cherries on her sundaes. Her Angelic Caregivers at Pathways Medical need a special mention too, for providing extra loving care when Janice needed it the most.
