Obituary for Ellen Syring

Ellen Syring, age 92 of Hewitt passed away on Friday, February 7, 2020 at home, surrounded by family. Ellen was born on March 16, 1927 in the township of Colby, Clark County to Henry and Elizabeth (nee Awe) Voigtlander. She was baptized on June 5, 1927 at West Side Reformed Church in Greenwood and Confirmed on May 12, 1940 at Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church in Curtis. Her Confirmation verse was Jeremiah 31:3 “The Lord appeared to me from a distance, saying; I have loved you with an everlasting love. I have drawn you with mercy.” She graduated from Colby High School in 1945.

On September 19, 1946 she married Clarence Syring in Colby. Ellen spent many years as a farm wife on their family farm in the Edgar area. Clarence preceded her in death on June 29, 1992. Over the years Ellen also worked in ginseng gardens, canning factories and many years at Figi’s in Marshfield. Her hobbies were traveling, cooking, sewing including making many beautiful quilts for family. She was also active in the 4H club in her early years. She greatly enjoyed her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her extended family.

On January 6, 1996 she married Elmer Syring at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in March Rapids. He preceded her in death on August 24, 2009.

Ellen is survived by her five children: Darlene Smith of Hewitt, David (Ellen) Syring of Edgar, Charlotte (Jim) Jones Jr. of Hewitt, Larry (Audrey) Syring of Stratford and Rick (Renell) Syring of Hewitt; two step children: Glen (Susan) Syring of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, David L. Syring of Marshfield; as well as a step daughter-in-law: Debra Syring of Mosinee; 11 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. Ellen is further survived by sister-in-laws: Betty Voigtlander of Urbana, IL and Arabella Syring of Edgar, WI.

In addition to her parents and late husbands, Ellen was preceded in death by her brother: Henry Voigtlander; stepson: Roy Syring; two grandchildren: Eric Smith and Judy Shepard; as well as a son-in-law: Art Smith.

Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home of Marshfield will be in charge of arrangements with visitation being held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in March Rapids. Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, February 15, 2020 Emmanuel Lutheran Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Lunch will be served at the church after the burial service.

Larry Picha, Jason Syring, Joshua Syring, Jeremiah Syring, Osha Adegunleye and Lance Syring will serve as casket bearers.
