Elizabeth (Lizzy) Jayne Thompson

Elizabeth (Lizzy) Jayne Thompson unexpectedly left this world on Saturday, April 10th, 2021 after only 17 short years. She burst into the world on February 23rd, 2004. Born to Teresa (Vine) Thompson and Scott Thompson. She was born in Marshfield, WI at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Lizzy may have been born with Spina Bifida, but you would have never guessed with the resilience and strength that she immediately possessed coming into this world. Not one day did she ever complain or say anything negative about being born with a disability. She came into this world deeply loved by her parents and her two big brothers, as well as the large extended family she belonged to.

Lizzy started elementary school in Marshfield but early on moved to Wauwatosa, WI. During elementary, she would participate in orchestra and band. As well, she was in dance for several years, a passion that she loved. She would also go on to play volleyball for one season during middle school. As she entered high school, she would find enjoyment in being part of the theatre crew, where she would help build sets and do the make-up of her friends in the school plays. She was also in choir, another passion of hers. Lizzy was planning to take a gap year after graduation before deciding where she wanted to go to college to become a neonatal nurse.

She was a strong, resilient, independent, straightforward, young woman. Lizzy was known to always tell you what she was thinking and never held back. She also was known to always give a good eye roll before she told you what was on her mind. Lizzy was a compassionate, caring, and loving person and will be known by everyone for having a heart larger than any ocean. She had a deep love for animals and children, always able to find immediate bonds with both. She also was able to light up a room with her infectious smile and charismatic personality. Lizzy made sure that no one ever felt alone. She has left an immense hole in this world, but we all know she will always be our guiding light with brightness she brought to all who know her.

Lizzy is survived by her mother Teresa (Milwaukee, WI), her father Scott and stepmother Kathy (Marshfield, WI). She is also survived by her three brothers, Brett Opelt (El Paso, TX), Dallas (Ariel) Opelt (Lake Stevens, WA) and Anthony (Pittsville), her stepsisters, Brittany Barritt (Nekoosa) and Janiece Rose (Madison), her maternal grandparents Sharon and Randy Hendrickson (Wild Rose, WI), Donna Vine (Granton, WI), her paternal grandmother Betty Thompson (Wisconsin Rapids, WI), 22 aunts and uncles, and so many cousins. She is preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Alfred Thompson, Jr., and her maternal grandfather Dale Vine. Lizzy will always be her family’s young lady, gone too soon.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 17, 2021, at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield. Burial will be in the Town of Richfield Cemetery, Wood County, Wisconsin. The visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and Saturday from 10:00 am until service time at the funeral home.
