Elizabeth A. “Beth” Sommer

Elizabeth A. “Beth” Sommer, age 74, of Edgar, passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at her home surrounded by the love and tears of her family. Beth’s care was supported by Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Alan Wierzba officiating. She will be laid to rest in the parish cemetery privately at a later date. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Saturday from 9 AM until time of service. The honor of pallbearer belongs to Nicolas and Zachary Allmann, Michael and Tyler Sommer, Garrett Sommer, Otto and Oscar Sommer, Noah Lassa, and Matt Ruhle.

Elizabeth was born on April 16, 1947, in Wausau; the daughter of Arthur and Evelyn Hilber. She graduated from Marathon High School. On May 30, 1968, she was united in marriage to Thomas Sommer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marathon. She was employed as a banker in Edgar for more than 25 years.

Beth was a longtime active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edgar.

Her hobbies included sewing, altering dresses, quilting, and crocheting all done with gifted and patient hands. She loved and cherished her family and couldn’t get enough of caring for her grandchildren, she always made sure to be present at their events.  Elizabeth was gifted with hospitality, she loved having family in her home visiting, celebrating, enjoying home-cooked meals and her baked goods.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas of Edgar; her children, Scott (Brenda) Sommer, Jason Sommer and Jeffrey (Nicole Gabower) Sommer; her son-in-law, Jeff Allmann; her grandchildren, Morgan (Noah) Lassa, Heather Sommer, Garrett Sommer, Amber (Matt) Ruhle, Nicholas (Crystal) Allmann, Zachary Allmann, Abigail Allmann, Michael (Carley) Sommer, Tyler Sommer, Courtney Sommer, Otto Sommer, and Oscar Sommer and her great-grandchildren, Olivia, Esther, Mateo, Lincoln, and Hudson. She is further survived by her sisters, Lois (Jerome) Koppa of Marathon and Mary (Ron) Wilichowski of Marathon; her brother, Carl (Jill) Hilber of Tucson, AZ, and her sister-in-law, Chris Shebenik of Wisconsin Rapids.

Beth was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Evelyn; her daughter, Julie Allmann, and two brothers, David and John Hilber.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Elizabeth’s name can be directed to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edgar.
